English Heritage Question Time event

The Heritage Counts Question Time 2009, chaired by Martha Kearney, took place at the Royal Institute of British Architecture (RIBA) and brought together heritage leaders from English Heritage, the National Trust and the Heritage Lottery Fund as well as esteemed journalists and broadcasters from the BBC.

The event was in the evening and an hours worth of edited video material needed to be live on the English Heritage website the very next morning along with accompanying transcription. Needless to say, we embraced the challenge!

We filmed with two cameras, so that when we came to edit, we could seamlessly cut between the audience questions, the panelist’s individual responses and wider shots of the panel in discussion.

With the footage in the can, we hot footed it back to the studio and prepared ourselves for the long nights work that lay ahead for us. There is nothing like a deadline (and an endless supply of coffee) to spur you on. As the sun rose, the various processes of capturing, editing, transcribing, converting, checking and finally uploading were coming to an end. Only when we logged on to the English Heritage website and watched each of the videos through, did we allow ourselves a few hours rest!

Films for the public sector

Film is an incredibly effective (not to mention cost effective) way of informing and engaging.

We've worked with many public sector organisations and understand the increasing need to communicate with a range of audiences – from the general public to staff and stakeholders.

People respond to people. The stars of our films are the staff and service users themselves. We've found that stories told with honesty and passion have a far greater impact than ‘flashy’ titles and graphics. It’s certainly more cost effective.

Every film is different. Here are just five ways that film can help you achieve your communication objectives:

  1. Promotional films to introduce your whole organisation
  2. Films that record events such as launches and AGMs – making them available to a wider audience.
  3. Films that document and promote a particular project.
  4. Films to encourage more sponsors.
  5. Films that promote events, such as family days out.
